Parental Involvement

At Next Steps preschool we recognise that parents as the first and most important educators of their children. Our staff members see themselves as co-workers with you in providing care and education for your child. There are many ways in which parents take part in making the pre-school a welcoming and stimulating place for children and parents, such as:

  • exchanging knowledge about their children’s needs, activities, interests and progress with the staff
  • helping at sessions of the pre-school
  • sharing their own special interests with the children
  • helping to provide, make and look after the equipment and materials used in the children’s play activities
  • exchanging knowledge about their children’s needs, activities, interests and progress with the staff
  • being part of the management of the pre-school (subject to Disclosure Barring Service)

Your Child’s Learning Journey

Boy playing on slideThe pre-school keeps records for each child; these are made up from observation and assessments that the key person has collected on their key children.

Staff and parents working together on their children’s learning journeys is one of the ways in which Next Steps and parents work in partnership. There are parent evenings for parents to come and discuss their children. Your child’s Learning Journey which is now done using ipads will show their learning progress and what next steps they would need to take for the following term. All learning journeys are update at the end of each term and a summative report is made.

Our staff are always available should you wish to discuss anything in relation to your child’s care or education. All children can be provided with a contact book which enables us to communicate with parents if you are not always available.
